Please Meet Bailey......................

Here is the birthday present my husband got me today for my birthday. I named him Bailey after George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life", my favorite movie. As I am an animal lover, all my animals live wonderful lives, as I love to spoil them and love them for as long as time allows. My husband felt bad that I lost my beloved cat Mr. Sox and due to the animal dynamics in my home right now, a new cat was not a good idea, so he decided I should become a first time bird owner. Bailey is a hand raised Whitefaced, Pearl Cockatiel. I picked him out according to personalities that would fit me. Bailey is an alpha male and I should be able to train him with no problems. I may even be able to get him to talk some, and will work on it during our long life together, as he is only approx 4-5 months old. Bailey took to me right away and even preened some while I was holding him. We will become fast friends and I was thrilled to know he already knows "step up". I was glad to hold him for the couple hours while we got a crash course on birds and now we are home and have put him in his new cage. I can't wait to take him back out and hold him again, however like everything in life, patience is key and always one step at a time. Right now the dogs (Gus & Neil) and the cat (Tigger) just need to get use to having a new feathered friend added to our humble abode, so Bailey will rest in his cage for a bit. I can't wait to get pictures of him out of his cage! Can you say scrapbook opportunity? Oh, yeah!

What a wonderful gift! Since you've called him Bailey you'll have to teach him to sing that song that ends "..and dance by the light of the moon" (I love It's a Wonderful Life too! LOL)

He is so cute! Watch your mailbox! I sent you three books on cockatiels. They should arrive shortly. There are some great CD's on eBay of people whistling songs that are made just for birds. I bought some when I had my birds, and they learned them really fast. I would set the CD player on repeat and go to work. LOL Who knows, it may have just made them crazy, and they sang trying to get the whistling to stop.

They are such great fun. You will have a nice long life together.

What a wonderful gift! I look forward to hearing lots of Mr. Bailey stories. My brother had a cockatiel who used to mimic the sounds of the microwave buttons being pressed. Asia was a great buddy.

He's beautiful! I had a cockatiel - her name was Duchess. She was fabulous! She gave me kisses and was very handle-able! She loved to sing with the theme song to the TV show COACH. She was a good friend as I'm sure Bailey will be for you!
